Item Description

A very rare, old-time specimen from Cornwall. Found in the late 1800s, and thought to be a new species, enysite was determined to be a mix, unique to this locale, of greenish-blue woodwardite with possibly brochantite or connellite (rare, in any case!). A rich and colorful crust of enysite covers the matrix OF THIS DISPLAY SPECIMEN WITH ANCIENT LABELS! This historic piece comes with a James Gregory label: he was a prominent London mineral dealer and it dates from 1874-1895. Most importantly, a handwritten Washington Roebling label also comes with the specimen, written in his own pen and with his initials. Few such survive! The paper label on the back of the piece has what seems to be an 1877 date. Ex George Elling Collection.
