Item Description
Enstatite is a well-known magnesium silicate species, and a member of the Pyroxene Group, most commonly thought of a rock-forming species, and fine crystals are fairly rare in nature. We've seen some attractive examples of Enstatite from Myanmar, but they're almost always loose singles, off matrix. THIS piece is a rare and impressive matrix specimen featuring a prismatic, lustrous, GEMMY, dark golden-green colored crystal of Enstatite measuring 3.4 cm long sitting on a layer of light beige colored Mica on host rock matrix. A few smaller incomplete accessory crystals of Enstatite can be seen on the piece as well, but it's the main crystal that's the star of the show here. When the crystal is backlit, you can see it's virtually WATER-CLEAR in areas. This is the most impressive example of Enstatite that we've had to offer in the auctions for the quality, color, gemminess and the fact that it's on matrix. I value this one highly, in the $4,000-$5,000 range, as I've never seen another like it, and we may never have another to offer. I would like to also point out that the crystal is larger than virtually all other Enstatites we've had to offer from Myanmar as well. If you collect gem crystals, this is an important specimen that is virtually impossible to find on the market, and I'm sure most of you don't have a good matrix Enstatite in your collections, especially featuring a GEM QUALITY crystal. From the collection of Bill ("Burma Bill") Larson of Fallbrook, California. Bill is a well-known gem and mineral dealer as well as a miner and collector. Bill traveled the world for decades in search of fine gems and minerals, and was directly involved in the in-person acquisition and importation of superb specimens and stones from Myanmar (Burma).
