Item Description

Some of the finest crystals of Enargite ever found came from Butte, Montana. The Leonard Mine is often cited as the premier mine in the district for the species. This piece is filled with excellent, razor-sharp, highly lustrous, dark metallic grey-black colored tabular striated crystals of Enargite measuring up to 6 mm, which are associated with golden metallic Pyrite and a bit of colorless Quartz prisms. There are also some MICRO pale blue crystals of Apatite on the specimen, and if the piece is viewed under LW UV light, you can see they glow a bright orange color. Apatite is rarely seen from any mine in Butte, so this is a great bonus for this already fine quality specimen. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
