Item Description

An exceptional thumbnail cluster of Enargite from the Leonard Mine in Butte, Montana showing excellent separation of crystals and minor associated of Pyrite. There is one prominent, elongate and lustrous, 1.3 cm Enargite in the center of a dozen smaller crystals. The silvery-gray Enargite crystals display a bright metallic luster with striated prism faces and mirror-like pinacoid terminations. The smaller crystals range in size from 0.4 to 1 cm and are nearly vertical with some on their sides and a few show perfect cleavage. Bright, anhedral Pyrite is the matrix for these Enargites. A great thumbnail for the species and locality! These are generally from the 1960s or older.
