Item Description
Emeralds are one of the few precious gems, along with Sapphires, Rubies, Diamonds and Alexandrite. These treasured gems have been admired for centuries for their beauty and rarity due to the fact that there truly are only a few places that yield gem quality material. The oldest Emeralds actually date back to ancient Egypt, where they have been found in tombs dating back a few hundreds years BCE. Aristotle wrote that owning an Emerald would help the wearer with victory in trials, settling litigation, success in business matters and even with poor eyesight. Later, emeralds were highly prized by the Incas and Aztecs when discovered in Colombia. Today Colombia, Brazil, and Zambia produce most commercial Emeralds, but occasionally we will see some beautiful gems from Jos, Nigeria. These stones have a distinct color (showing a slight blue overtone) that separates them from other worldwide Emeralds. This gem has a gorgeous blue-green color with a "Step Oval" cut and very slight inclusions. Keep in mind that Emerald is classified as a Type-3 gemstone, which means that inclusions (even small ones) are typically present, and accepted by jewelers, collectors and dealers, so the inclusions in this gem would not be as frowned upon as they would in another stone. It's a really good quality example of these hard to find Emeralds. If you're a locality collector for gems, don't pass up this beauty from a lesser known area for the material. A great gem for anybody who likes Emeralds.
