Emerald (not from Colombia)

When it comes to gem quality Emerald, most people think of the famous stones from Colombia. While these gems are the standard for Emerald on a worldwide scale, there are several other localities outside of Colombia that produce excellent gems. The state of Bahia, Brazil has for many years been a source of some fine Emeralds, though is a smaller quantity than what is found in Colombia. Emerald is classified as a type-3 gemstone which means that inclusions in the stones are acceptable in the trade for collectors and dealers. With that said, it is very difficult to find a "clean" Emerald that is over a carat. This stone, despite having some minor inclusions, has a lively color gem for the size. Keep in mind that Emeralds cannot be held to the same clarity standard for which most stones are held. This stone is a beautiful, bright green color, "Emerald" cut gem from this lesser known locality for the material. It's certainly gem quality, it's not opaque. The color is simply BETTER than the photos indicate, as Emerald is one of the most difficult gems in the world to reproduce the color.
