Emerald (not from Colombia)

Emeralds are one of the few precious gems extant, and they are truly some of the most valuable stones on the market. Everyone will agree that the most famous Emerald stone in the world are the superb gem found in Colombia, but there are a few other world localities that produce excellent Emeralds in limited quantity. The Emeralds found near Jos, Nigeria are much rarer than their Colombian counterparts, and they have a beautiful distinctive color which often has a slight blue overtone. With that said, the top examples from Nigeria are very attractive and in few cases, nearly rival the Colombian gems in terms of quality and color. Here we have a wonderful little "Step Oval" cut stone with a light minty green color and nearly no inclusions. Keep in mind that Emerald is classified as a "Type-3" gemstone which means that inclusions in the stones are acceptable in the trade for collectors and dealers, so a stone with this clarity is better than most you'll find. A very attractive example of these very hard to find stones from Jos.
