Emerald (HUGE faceted stone)

When it comes to Emeralds, people might think of countries like Colombia, Brazil, Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan or even Ethiopia, so India is not necessarily at the top of most people's minds for the material. Recently we picked up this stone direct from our source in India who confirmed it's from the Bubani Mine in Rajasthan. It's certainly one of the largest and most impressive examples we've had to offer recently. The stone is a monstrous "Step Oval" cut gem with a rich, consistent green color throughout. Despite the fairly basic cut, it's the size and color of the stone that really make it shine. Now the stone is opaque, but with very strong backlighting, you can get a tiny bit of color to peek through the edges. A truly impressive gem that would make a great addition to any collection. We don't have a carat scale here that can handle a stone of this size, so I threw it on the gram scale, and it came out at 318.4 grams, so that means it's 1,592 carats. Not too many people can say they've seen an 1,500+ carat faceted Emerald from many localities, and if you're a fan of interesting gemstones, worldwide Emeralds or if you know somebody with a birthday in May who would love to receive this as a gift, don't miss out on this interesting and attractive gem from this lesser-known locality in India.
