Item Description
Beryl in and of itself is an amazing mineral, especially when considering the vast range of colors and environments in which it is found. When it comes to Emeralds, the standard lies with the unmatched specimens from the Cosquez Mine in Muzo, Colombia. Simply put, the finest color and quality Emeralds have been coming out of this area for centuries, and are still being found today. This world famous mine lies about 60 miles north of Bogota and has given collectors amazing display specimens, single crystals and faceted gems. This particluar piece is not from any recent mining, but was found about 35 years ago, and comes from the Richard A. Kosnar collection. Good matrix Emerald specimens are hard to find, even today, and this piece is a well-balanced and attractive specimen featuring several sharp, lustrous, beautiful green color hexagonal prisms of Emerald that range from translucent to nearly water-clear. The crystals are mixed with light golden Pyrite and grey-white Calcite on matrix. Overall, the piece is in excellent condition, and this is not your typical Emerald specimen with a crystal that was etched out or chipped out of the matrix to better show its faces. This piece is natural and looks great when displayed. Rich Kosnar's original catalogue number of Em/Cal1Muzo is attached to the base of the specimen. If you're in the market for a cabinet display piece of this historic material, this one's for you. Valued at $3250.
