Emerald is one of those gems that everyone has heard of. It's certainly one of the most valuable and treasured stones in the world. Emerald usually falls into the precious gems category along with Rubies, Sapphires, Diamonds. Most people don't realize that fine gem quality Emeralds are not terribly common around the world. There are only a handful of localities that really produce anything of value, and the Emeralds from Colombia have been the standard-bearer for centuries for the number of fine quality large stones that have been found. This stone is a classic "Oval Cabochon" cut gem with saturated green color. Now there are some visible inclusions, but Emerald is classified as a Type-3 gemstone, which means that inclusions (even small ones) are typically present, and accepted by jewelers, collectors and dealers. Sometimes dealers will actually use the term "jardin" (French for garden) to describe the inclusions inside of an Emerald.
