Item Description

Emeralds are one of the most easily recognized minerals / gems in the world, and when it comes to specimens, I would think that the majority of dealers and collectors think of material from Colombia. With that said, there are some impressive Emerald specimens that have been coming out Bahia in northeast Brazil. Now these crystals may not always be as gemmy as those from Muzo or Chivor, but in many cases, they are larger with that same classic Emerald color. This wonderful cabinet display piece hosts a good quality, hexagonal 8.6 cm long crystal of Emerald with smooth, sharp, lustrous faces and a bit of translucency when backlit sitting on contrasting black matrix with some partial Emerald crystals mixed in. The crystal has that classic RICH emerald green color. The crystal actually has a few growth interruptions caused by tectonic activity, so it's partially "segmented" to create an interesting three-dimensional appearance. It's impressive to see how sharp and well-formed the crystal is, and you almost NEVER see crystals of this size from the mines in Colombia, so it's significant not only for Brazil, but Emerald worldwide. Now the termination is not visible, it has some attached matrix on the end, so it's hard to know whether or not it's actually completely crystallized. It's not easy to find cabinet sized matrix specimens of Emerald from anywhere in the world, and this piece would make a nice addition to a gem crystal collection, or a suite of Brazilian minerals. Priced at $1,250 in the inventory.
