elongated Calcite crystal

Item Description

Impressive large cave calcite specimen from older finds at Wenshan. This is not a stalactite as some thing, but a true crystal with extremely elongated growth and faces, characteristic of some older finds of the very early 2000s era of collecting here. The transparent, very glassy, colorless calcite with frosted faces looks like a flower bulb at a tip about to bloom above the stout long stem. The spike at the base and the bit of matrix are fine complements to this aesthetic and pristine 360-degree crystal of unusual shape. The deposits in vast limestone formations at Wenshan County have produced an outstanding variety of cave calcites and aragonites, and this is an excellent matrix example of this varietal.
