Item Description

Here is a beautiful, very architectural, intensely bi-colored Elbaite Tourmaline from the Cruzeiro Mine with a small side-car Morganite crystal. This lustrous, translucent to gemmy, 79.7 gram Tourmaline crystal is complete and perfect all around, 360 degrees with a multiple, cityscape-like multiple termination. Much of the body of the crystal is a medium blue-green with the color largely attributed to a medium green core and a medium blue jacket. The multiple terminations of the main crystals and two smaller crystals placed at an angle on the piece all have rich cranberry-pink terminations. The luster is superb, very glassy and bright and the edges of the main crystal are razor sharp. A highly unusual, complex and elegant crystal, with the interesting morganite accent! The color gradients are subtle and contribute to its aesthetics. This is a classic old style from the late 1980s that now comes up only as collections recycle. Kurt Hefendehl was a well-known collector in the mineral world all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 in about 1952; and his great and varied worldwide collection reached a number of over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
