Item Description

Ecdemite is a very rare lead, arsenic halide and this rich and showy old-time combination specimen is from near the famous Type Locality of Langban. A rich cluster of radiating, highly lustrous, tan ecdemite blades to 9 mm is surrounded by gemmy and lustrous, rose-red, rhodonite crystals. The small iron-manganese Harstigen Mine operated from 1847-1853 and 1887-1889. Ex Bement, American Museum and Conklin Collections. The white "V" on the back was the arrow placed by American Museum curator Louis Gratacap after the Bement Collection was acquired in 1910 and indicates that this piece was of sufficient importance to be put on display in the Museum (and which angle to orient it on shelf). An EXCEPTIONALLY rich, historic, very rare specimen with a superb provenance. Valued $750
