Item Description

A fairly uncommon specimen of Dumortierite from the Dehesa Dumortierite deposit in San Diego County, California. Typically, this mineral is not found in display quality examples, and the color is often quite dull, but these particular pieces are fairly showy with a beautiful color. Dehesa is well known for producing some iconic specimens of crystallized Dumortierite, some of the best from any US locality. This piece hosts attractive rich purple colored radial "sprays" comprising thin acicular "needles" on Mica and Feldspar matrix. The most important aspect of the specimens is that these are euhedral crystal (not just broken masses). A wonderful example of these attractive and hard to find specimens.
