Item Description
Smoky quartz of this size, quality and form is rare from Governador Valadares. Most Minas Gerais specimens are from Diamantina, Divino das Laranjeiras or an unknown locality. This striking and sculptural large smoky quartz specimen is from the Paul Zerfass Collection # 1749. Impressive en echelon and stepped-growth, terminated gem smoky quartz crystals are supremely lustrous, glassy, mostly transparent and have entrancing variable smoky color, especially along the crystal edges. The large crystal on the left side is 10.7 cm and is doubly terminated. The form of the beautiful intergrown smoky quartzes remind me of scales on a crocodile's hide.
