Item Description
Excellent, old doubly terminated kunzite from the famous Pala Chief Mine. The pristine gem floater has pretty pink color and waxy luster striated faces, typical of spodumene crystals. The striking angled, heavily etched terminations add pizzazz to this classic. The two C-axis shots, one backlit reveal the beautiful vivid, rich lilac color of this fine kunzite. Very choice old-time kunzite from the Kay Robertson Collection # 847. Kay acquired this piece from Bob Grieger, son of famous California mineral dealer John Grieger, whose collection it was in, at the San Bernardino Show in 1958. Read John Grieger's extensive biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=867. This piece was possibly collected by John and his partner, Tom Warner, at the Pala Chief in 1935. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). 36 grams mass.
