Item Description

An incredibly rare and important intergrown cluster of doubly terminated Hydroxylherderite crystals from the famous Golconda mines. The glassy, highly lustrous, pseudo-orthorhombic or pseudo-hexagonal translucent crystals have tan bodies and gemmy, light brown terminations. This exceptional specimen probably dates to the 1950s to 1960s. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 11205 and acquired from Al McGuiness at the Tucson Show in 1987. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). See the recent excellent Golconda article in the Mineralogical Record, 2019, Vol. 50, No. 5. Such historic and exceptional specimens from this locality are few and far between.
