DT Herkimer Quartz "diamond" in matrix (Cook Coll.)

An absolutely adorable 2.0 cm, gem, doubly-terminated Herkimer Quartz "diamond" is elegantly set in the vug atop the sculptural sawed limestone matrix. The few internal veils add character. The floor and side of the vug are lined with lustrous black Pyrobitumen, a striking, contrasting and typical accessory. Ex Cook Collection. We feel very lucky to have picked up the large collection of Bill and Anne Cook of Cleveland, recently. It is a tribute to their long efforts, how many interesting minerals and old localities were preserved and carefully labelled so you can see them now. Bill and Anne collected for at least 60 years. Specimens from this quarry are RARE compared to other nearby localities. Matrix Herkimer Quartz "diamonds" are relatively rare, due to the hardness of the matrix. The crystal has been reattached, which is acceptable in this case. This remains a very fine and classic matrix example.
