Item Description
A beautiful and shapely, doubly terminated, floater sapphire crystal from recent finds in Madagascar. The lustrous, translucent crystal has hues from rose-red to purple/lavender. Multi-hued sapphires of this varietal are much rarer, compared to the mostly purple crystals from this deposit. These corundums are generally called sapphires on the market when blue and rubies when more red, though most show some zoning...but the mineralogists tell me all are "bi-colored sapphires". The form is sharply hexagonal and the crystal is nearly pristine, with only very trivial termination edge wear on one end. 13 grams. Valued at $1500 from previous dealership (Seibel Minerals) to the previous owner. It is a superb example from this locality, rarely seen in such sharpness and with uniformity of luster
