Item Description

Hanksite is a very rare, hexagonal sulfate carbonate found in lacustrine evaporite deposits. This symmetrical, doubly terminated, floater crystal is from the Type Locality - Searles Lake in California. The translucent, olive-green crystal is complete all-around and pristine. This dramatic piece is strikingly more flattened, than most you will see. Hanksite is a soluable mineral and most such specimens are coated with mineral oil for protection, as it this piece. If they become dull, recoat with mineral oil for lasting life. Ex Al Ordway Collection. This is an outstanding example of this rare species, with sharp terminations. Who says that evaporite species can't have fabulous form! It resembles a large, weird looking beryl crystal. Such fine examples have not been on the market widely in decades.
