Item Description
Hanksite is a very rare, hexagonal sulfate carbonate found in lacustrine evaporite deposits. This strikingly symmetrical, doubly terminated, floater crystal is from the Type Locality - Searles Lake in California. The translucent, greenish crystal is complete all-around and pristine. Hanksite is a soluable mineral and most such specimens are coated with mineral oil for protection, as it this piece. If they become dull, recoat with mineral oil for lasting life. Ex Al Ordway Collection. This is an outstanding example of this rare species.
