Item Description

The Auglaize Quarry is better known for its glassy purple fluorites, but it has also produced fine calcites, such as this aesthetic combination piece. Glassy, intergrown calcite crystals with gemmy golden tips are jauntily perched on the limestone matrix. Two of the crystals are doubly terminated, including the largest, at 5.5 cm. Four, color-zoned, purple, fluorite cubes to 3 mm on one side are a super accent. The calcites are essentially pristine, with only the most trivial of termination wear (with a loupe). Fine material from the Ed Bancroft Collection, son of noted collector, author, curator and educator, Pete Bancroft.
