DT Calcite twin w/ Sphalerite (1970s) ex Galas Coll.

Item Description

Classic, old-time, doubly terminated and twinned calcite from the famous Elmwood Mine. The shapely, very glassy and lustrous crystal has desirable gemmy golden-amber terminations, a striking sharp well-defined twinning plane and is nicely accented with a bit of sphalerite matrix. The crystal is nearly pristine. You have to look on the back of both tips to see that they are gently cleaved. Ex Chris and Agatha Galas Collection, according to the former dealer label. The Galas's were California mineral dealers who advertised in The Mineralogical Record in the 1970s. Elmwood went into production in 1975, so this is probably a fine early calcite from the renowned locale. Classic older Elmwood calcite.
