Item Description
A beautiful and striking, 8.7 cm, doubly terminated and twinned, gemmy, golden-amber calcite crystal is dramatically set on a cluster of intergrown fluorite cubes from the famous Annabel Lee Mine. The very glassy, highly lustrous, calcite reminds us of classic Elmwood Mine material. The sculptural cluster of lustrous fluorite cubes, to 3.5 cm, have frosted faces and appear to be almost black. But bright light shows, that they are a rich, deep grape-purple with variable translucence. A lower edge is covered with tiny rubyjack sphalerites. The back of the fluorite cluster is contacted, but there appears to be very little actual damage. The attachment point is next to the sphalerite field. The calcite is complete all-around and is in good shape. It is pristine, except for one end being gently cleaved and can be strongly minimized, depending on the display view. This impressive combination has multiple fine display views from either side. Ex Ross Lillie Collection # 1170 and collected by miner Larry Humm in September, 1988. Ross' handwritten note states: "Extremely fine, sharp crystal on matrix. Rarely found in this condition. Photo by (Jeff) Scovil." Valued at $1250 for quality and rarity.
