Item Description

A classic, old-time and excellent barite and dolomite specimen from the famous iron mines at Frizington. Blue barites are the most highly desirable color varietal from Frizington. The front is composed of stacked, very glassy, translucent, blue crystals attractively accented with oxide-tinted dolomite rhombs. The crystal at the top is doubly terminated. The same crystals on the back have a brick-red color, due to inclusions of iron oxides! Interesting chemistry here. Very nearly a floater with the attachment/contact points at the base in the barite and dolomite. In great shape, overall. Trivial, barely noticeable bruising is noted at either end of the lower barites. Ex A.K. Borland Collection, a prominent mid-20th Century English collector. Herb Obodda dealer stock and valued by Herb at $500, five or more years ago. It is worth more today.
