Item Description

Incredibly rare, perhaps UNIQUE, dravite/schorl tourmaline specimen from Chambers County, Alabama. A sculptural small cabinet of dense, diverging spray of lustrous, jet-black dravite/schorl prism sections is embedded in brown matrix. The crystals reach about 4.0 cm long. Chambers County is in East-Central Alabama, with Georgia on the East. MINDAT lists 29 valid species for Chambers County, but there are NO photographic examples of any of the species for the county. MINDAT lists 4 tourmaline localities in Chambers County, but not Tiger Corners. Collected by Bob Stevens in 1999 and acquired by John Whatley from him in 2000. Ex John Whatley Collection, a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022). A MUST for the species or locality collector. A singular Chambers County, Alabama tourmaline specimen.
