Item Description

A very hard to find matrix specimen from Brumado, Brazil featuring several prismatic trigonal crystals of rich reddish-brown colored Dravite measuring up to 3 mm, associated with a couple yellow-green crystals of Chrysoberyl in Talc matrix. This is the ONLY specimen I can remember seeing with these two minerals together on the same piece from Brumado. The Dravites are best seen up close, and you can see from the photos we took that they are GEM QUALITY. There are a few broken crystals, but most of the Dravites are in fine condition. A cool combo from this famous mining area. It should be noted that the Talc matrix is rare from Brumado, but Brumado is home to the second largest mineral talc mine in Brazil, so it's not completely unexpected.
Formerly in the collection of William ("Bill") Pinch (August 15, 1940 - April 1, 2017) of Rochester, New York. Bill was one of the most knowledgeable and accomplished mineral collectors / amateur mineralogist of the 20th century, and he was the namesake for the rare mercury oxyhalide species, Pinchite. The prestigious Pinch medal, which is typically awarded at the Tucson Gem And Mineral Show by the Mineralogical Association of Canada is also named in his honor.
