Item Description
A fine single crystal specimen of Tourmaline var. Dravite from the famous locality at Power's Farm, Pierrepont, New York. This thumbnail is a 1.6 cm Dravite with classic, mirror-like faces and a highly modified form. There is some contacting, but this well-represents the vintage Dravites from Pierrepont. The high luster and complicated trigonal form have made these some of the most well-known Tourmalines (especially opaque Tourmalines) in the world. It should be noted that these specimens were labeled as Uvite for years, but it turns out that they are mostly Dravite compositionally, with Uvite zones inside the same crystal. Formerly in the D'Agostino collection. From the collection of East Coast collector, George Elling, specializing in historic minerals of the East Coast and minerals from the development of old European mineralogy.
