Item Description

A unique, totally gemmy dravite tourmaline with a wonderful root beer color, and yet absolutely 100 percent transparent, and needing not much light to see the gemminess throughout. It's from Mwajanga, near Komolo, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania. This is a highly lustrous transparent terminated crystal with a fancy termination, and it looks like carved glass, truly. Shockingly gem! Illustrated in Minerals & Gemstones of East Africa by Bruce Cairncross (2020). Also recently published in Mineralogical Record, Refined Elegance: The Small Treasures of Mineralogy, November 2022, page 101. A gorgeous gem tourmaline, and a fullsized thumbnail specimen, apparently from a small pocket found in 2010.
