Item Description
A classic gemmy/translucent doubly terminated sapphire crystal with pretty, variable cornflower-blue color. The typically layered crystal has lightly frosted faces and a very interesting tapering and swelling body. Unusually sharp, whereas most are streamrolled!Sri Lanka sapphires set the standard for form and quality of the species and this is an excellent example. 33.76 carats. Valued at $800-1000. Not too many of this size and quality on the market these days. They are all heated, cut, and sold to the crazy Chinese market that is buying up as much as they can. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 11445. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
