Item Description

The famous N'Chwaning II Mine has produced some outstanding calcite specimens and this is an impressive large example. The doubly terminated highly lustrous, colorless crystal is water-clear with water-clear to frosted, stepped-growth faces and has striking complex form. The thin crust of manganite at the base imparts the gray tint. Complete all-around. The pointed end has a very slight, hard-to-see, cleave at the tip. One corner of the back termination (on the non-display side) has a cleave, which really shows the gem clarity of the crystal. Modest dark orangy-red fluorescence. Ex Cynthia Payne Calcite Collection. Valued by the former dealer at $395. A choice and striking large calcite.
