These striking and beautiful, V-twinned, butterfly calcites are certainly amongst the most famous single calcite finds of the modern era in China, and came out around 2000. They were very expensive at that time, still are, and disappeared quickly from the market. This matrix hosts a striking and beautiful, glassy, elegant double V-twin that is 3.1 cm-across. I have seen only a handful of "X-twins" showing the doubling of the classic V twin. ever, from anywhere. Both sides of the thin gossan crust are studded with lustrous, hematite-tinted scalenohedrons and there is another 1.3 cm V-twin on the backside. The double V-twin is pristine. Specimens of this quality only come from recycled material out of the advanced collections now. Contemporary, but instantly classic material.
