Dolomite with Chalcopyrite (rare locality specimen) (ex Rich Kosnar Collection)

A very hard to find specimen from the old Vereinigung Mine in Germany, a former lead/copper producing locality that closed in 1961. This piece is certainly the best Dolomite we've ever had to offer in the auctions from this locality. It's a showy and three-dimensional display specimen loaded with excellent, sharp, well-formed, slightly "pearly" rhombs of Dolomite measuring up to 1.5 cm associated with brassy metallic Chalcopyrite for a great touch. The piece is in superb condition, with no major damage that I can find anywhere, outside of the bottom where it was separated from the pocket wall. If you collect carbonates, old German classics, or if you're just a fan of interesting pieces from semi-obscure localities, do not pass this one up. It's a great piece for what it is, and a wonderful representation of what was coming out of this mine many decades ago. From the collection of Richard (Rich) A. Kosnar, the well-known dealer and collector from Colorado (1946-2007). Rich had an affinity for classic minerals from Europe, and built up a fairly large suite of material over the years.
