Item Description

Matrix twinned dolomite specimens are very rare from Switzerland. This outstanding specimen hosts a spectacular, 3.8 cm, lustrous, translucent, sharp, gray dolomite twin dramatically perched atop a matrix of tan cleavelandite blades, glassy quartz points and smaller dolomite rhombs, most of which, twinned. This is a surprising, two-sided rib, with the bottom of the plate hosting a vug lined with quartz points and more dolomite rhombs. The top edge of the dolomite twin does have a small bruise, but in the context of this rarity, is certainly a very modest detraction. Dolomite twins of this type on matrix do not appear in the MINDAT photo gallery for Swiss dolomite specimens. The twin form here is closest to crystals from the Binn Valley. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection and probably older material. Value of such a unique combination Swiss rarity?
