Item Description

A classic, excellent and uncommon combination plate from the Morro Velho Mine. Striking, rounded, flattened, lustrous and translucent, light rust-red dolomite rhombs are aesthetically accented at the top of the piece by sharp, lustrous, translucent, amber, siderite rhombs. Both the dolomite and siderite rhombs are preferentially peppered with tiny, pseudohexagonal, brassy, platy pyrrhotite crystals. Dolomite is uncommon from this famous gold mine. This fine combination specimen probably dates to the 1970s. Ex. Schlichter Collection.
