Dolomite (RARE locality specimen) (ex Chet Lemanski Collection)

Item Description

At first glance, you might think this is a Dolomite specimen from Black Rock, Arkansas or the Dreislar Mine in Germany, but it's from the much more obscure Aughamore Quarry in IRELAND! We've never had a piece of this material to offer in the auctions before this specimen. This quarry, according to mindat.org is still active, but specimens rarely make their way to the Western market. With that said, this is a wonderful specimen of this seldom-seen material featuring pearly, curved, soft pinkish colored rhombs of Dolomite measuring up to 5 mm, associated with small iridescent Chalcopyrite crystals on dark limestone matrix. Very good quality all around, only a few small imperfections. This is a must have specimen for any fan of worldwide carbonates or minerals from obscure localities! Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
