Item Description

This is the only specimen of this material that we've ever had to offer from the Lake Arthur Aragonite locality in New Mexico. We've seen a few specimens of simply Aragonite from this locality over the years, but this is a notably rare pseudomorph of sandy beige colored Dolomite pseudomorphing after a "flower"-like group of Aragonite crystals, which have a pseudo-hexagonal shape (they're actually orthorhombic cyclic twinned crystals). The piece is a complete "floater" and is undamaged all over. A really interesting and attractive specimen that would make a great addition to any pseudomorph suite or a collection of minerals from New Mexico. The piece was collected at least 35 years ago, as the small hand-written note on the back of the label states that it was obtained in 1987 at the New Mexico Mineral Symposium. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974 ( https://www.mindat.org/photo-326405.html ).
