Item Description

Dolomite specimens of this richness and quality are RARE from this historic mining district, with operations beginning in the 15th century or earlier (MINDAT). Intergrown clusters of lustrous, translucent, pastel-pink, saddle-shaped dolomite rhombs nearly cover the quartz crystal plate. Most of the clusters on one side have an orange-yellow iron oxide coating, adding color and contrast. A few bruised rhombs are only a modest detraction to this rich, showy and rare combination example from the Bob Trimingham Collection. Formerly in the H. Westenberger Collection, according to Bob's label.
