The area around Cavnic (formerly Kapnik in the old Austro-Hungarian empire) dates back to the 1330s, and over its many centuries of production, gave collectors some of the most iconic mineral specimens in the world. The locality is now completely closed down, and pieces like this are becoming difficult to obain. This showy display specimen features lustrous, radial aggregates of cream colored Dolomite overgrowing prismatic white Quartz crystals to create a very desirable and worthwhile representation from this historic mine. The Dolomite is studded with micro metallic Pyrites to create a beautiful overall appearance. A little roughness near the base, but good quality for the most part, and very eye-catching as you can see from the photos.
