Item Description

A superb and rare dolomite plate from this famous district. Highly lustrous, gray, compound rhombs aesthetically cover the sculptural plate. The impresssive, doubly terminated rhomb is 5.0 cm. A peppering of tiny marcasite/pyrite crystals is a nifty accent. This fine old-time plate has multiple display views and is essentially pristine, except for the trivial periphery wear. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and collected in 1921, according to his label with more info: Ex Walter Koch Collection, who started at the Freiberg School of Mines in 1919. Moved to the USA in mid-1920s and worked at a geologist for the Bureau of Land Management in Utah.
