Dolomite and Quartz

Item Description

A large Dolomite rhombohedron has grown juxtaposed to a sharp Quartz crystal on this attractive combo from the magnesite mines of Bahia, Brazil. Both the Quartz and the Dolomite are tinted a rusty red color by inclusions of Hematite far great highlighting. The 6 cm Quartz is doubly terminated and actually consists of three Quartz crystals growing in parallel and the composite crystal is doubly terminated! The Quartz has a glassy luster and portions are transparent with the remainder cloudy and the taller, more slender component crystal displays a partial phantom on the interior from the Hematite dusting on one side of an earlier formed crystal. There is also a smaller, 1.5 cm Quartz crystal jutting out at an acute angle from the base. The big Dolomite crystal is 4 cm in maximum dimension and is a perfect rhomb that not only has an earlier dusting of Hematite on the top side, but also has a sprinkling of a late generation of sugary Dolomite. The bottom of the crystal reveals the colorless, clear to translucent and lustrous character of the Dolomite. A very aesthetic combination piece from this classic Brazilian locality!
