Item Description

For several years, we've seen some excellent Dioptase specimens coming out of various localities in Republic of the Congo. This particular piece was mined in 2019, and features some of the best quality crystals I've seen from anywhere in the entire country. I would certainly make a comparison to Tsumeb as I really feel the crystals on this piece are "Tsumeb-quality" with high luster, textbook, prismatic trigonal form, rich emerald green color, and even good gemminess when backlit. The crystals measure up to 1.2 cm long, and the cherry on top is that they are associated with little "jewel"-like crystals of white/colorless Calcite, sprinkled about. The piece is in very good condition, I can see a few TINY nicks with a loupe, and the only roughness is around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. it's hard to convey the quality in photos/video, and I really feel like this piece is better in person than what you can see on your screen. A beautiful and excellent example of these fine Dioptase specimens.
