Item Description

Dioptase is one of Tsumeb's 'Holy Grail' species, and with Calcite in addition you have here a small-cabinet combination highly sought-after by collectors everywhere. Save for the contacts on the back, the mm-size Calcites cover the entire matrix. In turn, the two generations of Dioptase completely blanket the presentation side. Lustrous and gemmy, many have the electric-green fire that is so desirable for this species. Crystals of the first generation reach up to 1.4 cm in size, and the sugary and gemmy second-generation form a beautiful complement as they richly coat between the larger crystals. There are even several nicely-formed Dioptases on the back that are a nice surprise when you turn the piece over. The Calcites have an attractive and interesting, multi-hued fluorescence. Highly representative for this great locality, such great aesthetics make this desirable and coveted. Even better in person, this is a large piece of high quality for the price it will go for, and is literally from the iconic finds of the mid 1980s, never to be repeated. Valued $5000-plus.
