Dioptase on Plancheite

A dramatic cluster of lustrous and gemmy Dioptase crystals, on a crust of Plancheite, from one of the world's premier localities, the old Reneville locality in Congo. Before Tsumeb dioptase was found, these were the world's best. Dated in low numbers in the collection of over 100,000 specimens, Dr. Pohl purchased this in the 1960s and so we know that this is the classic older material in the 1950s-1960s. This aesthetic plate of flat-lying Dioptase crystals, up to 1.8 cm, displays the variegated, intense, emerald-green color so often seen in the Reneville specimens. Several crystals display gemmy highlights and most have incredible luster that is nearly impossible to photograph so it is better in person. In good condition, this aesthetic miniature well-represents the quality of Reneville. Valued ~$2000.
