Dioptase on gem Calcite crystals

Dioptase on Calcite is one of the most treasured combinations from the renowned Tsumeb Mine, among many, famous and unique to this day. These date from several pockets of the mid 1980s, almost without exception. This choice, small-cabinet piece features gemmy and lustrous Dioptase crystals to 3mm, and so many of these little gems exhibit the flashes of green fire that Dioptase crystals can be known for. These are intergrown with a bed of sharp, clear-to-white Calcite rhombs that range up to 5 mm; and these glassy Calcites ALSO have shocking luster and sparkle - the combination of both species having high luster is so rare! The calcites also have good, pinkish-orange fluorescence. There is some wear on the Dioptases, but the excellent contrast in both form and color provides a compelling aesthetic that shows why this particular association is so sought-after. Better in person, as the true brightness is hard to capture.
