Item Description

Dioptase was once known as poor mans emerald when it came out in force in the early 1980s?briefly. Sicne then the prices and values have climbed to make it on par with emerald, I would say. Maybe more expensive...Certainly, more rare and desirable to most collectors! This specimen is a gorgeous large miniature with a sharp, doubly-terminated, 1.9-cm crystal perched on contrasting matrix of sparkly calcite. It is very 3-dimensional and for the size, extremely well balanced and aesthetic. From the collection of well known South African dealer, Rob Smith. Valued $2000
