Dioptase on Calcite

This showy large cabinet-sized specimen is a dramatic dioptase specimen with a huge volume and an undulating surface that attracts the eye. It features perfectly formed Calcite crystals mounded up everywhere that are nicely dusted with sugary green sprinkles of Dioptase. The lustrous, translucent, light ashen-white Calcite rhombohedra are from 3 to 5 mm on edge and embellished with abundant, 1 mm, gemmy, emerald green Dioptase that sparkle profusely in any orientation. The piece is very three-dimensional with its hillocks and knolls of Calcite and the piece sits perfectly for display. An ornate and lovely Tsumeb classic! We almost never see such specimens in this size, as it is a survivor from the 1970s-1980s era here. Valued $10,000-plus, quite easily, and some dealers at a show who specialize in Tsumeb material simply seem to price such large pieces at 25k as a start, if you look around at what else is here in Tucson for sale.
