Dioptase has one of the most distinctive and alluring colors of any crystallized mineral species. Dioptase is known as one of the premier species from localities like Tsumeb, and is a favorite among collectors world wide This large facetted gem is actually from Republic of Congo, not Tsumeb, and it is one of the largest Dioptase stones I have seen. Now this gem is not 100% gem quality, but it does pass light, and it has the classic electric emerald green color for which the species is known. This "Modified Square" cut gem was facetted by Brett Kosnar on October 2, 2010. I will say that the supply of Dioptase rough on the market is minimal at best, and even though this gem does have some inclusions, it is a large size stone for any collector. This would be a superb opportunity to obtain a big Dioptase gem to pair with one of your specimens for an incredible rough and cut set!
