Dioptase (interesting crystallization)

Over the last few years the Mpita Mine has yielded some impressive and fine quality Dioptase specimens. Most of the earlier specimens featured smaller individual crystals sprinkled over matrix, but this newer material features more coverages of crystals with intergrown clusters on matrix. This cabinet sized piece features dozens of very sharp, highly lustrous, rich emerald green trigonal Dioptase crystals measuring up to about 4 mm, many of which feature stepped or multiple terminations. The most interesting aspect of the piece is that there are a few partial hollow "casts" in a somewhat spherical shape which that might have formed after a botryoidal mineral like Chrysocolla or Shattuckite, or it could be the result of a gas bubble that was crystallized on the exterior. For the most part, the piece is in good shape, but there are some contacts around the periphery. It really looks great under the microscope. A tiny bit of micro golden Mimetite can be seen in few spots as well for nice touch. There are few places in the world that produce good specimens of Dioptase like this, so don't miss out on this unique and interesting piece from this exciting locality in Republic on Congo.
